Message From The East

Brethren:

In my prior messages to you, you may have noticed that I have referred to the "work" that we do as Masons.  Well, the fact is, work is what masons do.  Look at the tools that they use: aprons, trowels, gauges, common gavels, levels, plumb lines, squares, and compasses.  You get the idea.  We as Freemasons have work to do as well.  Our charities, our lodge, our rituals & ceremonies, our commitment to each other and our families, our usual vocations, and to the God we serve, requires "work" on our part.  I want to thank those of you who have "stepped up to the plate" and committed your time and efforts to help out in the work that we do.

Every organization has "workers", "blockers", "knockers" and "mockers".  The workers are those with their "shoulders to the wheel" or "their noses to the grindstone".  Blockers are those who put up roadblocks to slow up progress or stop it altogether.  Knockers are those persistently pessimistic critics who say "that idea will never work here".  Mockers are those who ridicule, deride or show contempt for the work to be done.

As a member of St. John's Lodge, where on this list do you fit in?  St. John's Lodge has "work" to do; most of it will be fun and enjoyable, some of it will present a challenge.  But we as Brothers can and will get it done with each others’ help.  This is our Lodge, let us make it the best it can be. At this month's stated meeting we will be celebrating one man's family heritage in Freemasonry with the entering of a new candidate.  Let's come out for this historic moment in our Lodge.  Also, we will be conferring degrees at our extra meeting.  Let's show these men our support by filling "the Chairs" and the benches.

Fraternally,

Harry R. Carter III
Worshipful Master
